With the summer months just around the corner, you may soon find yourself lunging for that thermostat. But don’t let your electric bill make your jaw drop! Here are some ways you can save when the heat hits the fan.
Take a look at all the seals around your windows and doors. A broken seal can be easy to spot, especially if you have noticed a recent collection of dust. So touch up those seals around the house to start saving energy. This will help keep cool air where you want it…inside!
Adjust your thermostat
Adjusting your thermostat by just a few degrees can have a larger impact than you think. According to SDG&E, adjusting your central air conditioning temperature by four to six degrees will help save some serious cash. Programmable thermostats are a great option for those who are gone during the day, but want to come back to a nice, cool oasis.
Have you ever thought about the light bulbs around your home? Ditching traditional light bulbs is an easy place to start saving. LEDS are great for using less energy saving, and perfect for those who are looking for eco-friendly alternatives without sacrificing style. There are multiple types available, ranging from color control to those that can be operated from a mobile device.
For additional energy savings boost, swap out your traditional light switches for dimmer. Sit back and set the mood to your liking while you (and your home!) conserve energy.
It’s time to go shopping. Old appliances can be an energy black hole. Look for the ENERGY STAR® logo when shopping, as these household technologies have been government certified to conserve energy.
Water costs money, too! And our part of the state is not yet out of the drought. Take inventory of the appliances in your bathroom. Replace old toilets, faucets, and shower heads with new fancy low-flow appliances. Not only will you save on your water bill, they are great for the environment as well.
